A top trader & processor is seeking an Agribusiness Controller who will lead and oversee all accounting and finance functions for the division.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Grain and Commodity Trade accounting, including mark-to-market, cost, inventory, billing and receivables. The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including grain accounting, AP, AR, & inventory. Preparation of month and year-end financial statements accurately and timely is a must.

The Controller will be able to reconcile margin projections by revenue managers to P&L results and provide feedback regarding variances. Overseeing all budgeting, balance sheets, and contract & audit reports for the merchandising team.
This role will coordinate capital expenditure accounting, including project cost projections, setting depreciation rates, monitoring construction in progress, and reviewing the asset schedule for accuracy

Leadership will be a large portion of this role and the ideal candidate will have the ability to lead accounting and administrative team by directing daily responsibilities of staff, conduct staff meetings, supervise staff and adhere to HR policies. Presentation of financial and analytical reports to the leadership group of the division, as well as periodic presentations to corporate leadership groups is essential.

As the leader for the accounting team, compliance is an essential function. The Controller must ensure proper internal control procedures are in place for all business activities. They will also assist with annual audit as directed by the corporate office and maintain compliance with external agencies, including state tax departments, local property taxing agencies, grain licenses, motor vehicles departments, etc. The Controller must oversee coordination and compliance with UCC/EFS liens on first handled grain purchased from farmers.

There will be periodic projects within this position. Projects are as follows:

  • Assist General Manager and Executive group with ad hoc reporting, projections, and business analysis as needed.
  • Assist General Manger with business modeling for potential revenue opportunities.
  • Coordinate with IT on system updates, improvements, and technology (i.e. cell phones, laptops, desk terminals) needs for division staff.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or related business field

· Minimum 5 years of financial leadership and management experience

· Grain and feed industry knowledge or experience with mark-to-market accounting is desired

· Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail

· Ability to communicate with management, team members, and support staff

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook

· Strong ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
