Description
Due to an upcoming retirement, a thriving Illinois grain company is seeking an experienced and skilled Grain Merchandiser to lead the charge in driving profitability and keeping grain flowing smoothly at their multiple truck and rail facilities.
Responsibilities will include taking over 100% of the grain merchandising responsibilities. The General Manager will be available for conversations but will not get in your way. You will constantly monitor the company's position, do all of the hedging and be the go-to person in the company for marketing information. You will communicate regularly with all locations regarding pricing and information on purchasing grain, including working with some team members who have minimal experience in the grain industry. You will coach them on HTA's and basic contracts and assist them in talking to farmers about those. You will also do some of the rail settlements, however there is a teammate in the office who assists with that.
Candidates should have at least 5-10 years of grain merchandising experience; rail experience is advantageous as is a Series 3 license. A bachelor's degree in Ag Economics / Ag Business or related a Ag major is preferred. You must be a numbers person who can constantly look at and compare truck versus rail markets. An ability to work independently and think on your own is key; you will be merchandising on your own, not by committee.
Daily communications with the Logistics, Operations and Location Managers is critical to success in this role in order to coordinate efficient truck and rail movement of grain. Interaction with farmers is also an important role; you will be sharing market conditions and answering marketing questions they have.
This company is consistently profitable and is growing. In recent years they have installed a lot of new bins, legs and driers to improve customer service and maximize merchandising opportunities, and they are currently evaluating and adding more.
