Description
We have a family farming operation looking for an Operations Manager to join their expanding operation. The farm is located in western Kansas and consists of a combination of irrigated and dryland acreage. They grow wheat, milo, corn, and pinto beans with approximately one fourth of the acreage being irrigated.
The Operations Manager is a key leader on the farm and works closely with the farm owners. You are responsible for managing seven to ten H2A employees. You will actively recruit, hire, train, and evaluate the staff. You will lead employee preseason trainings and safety meetings. Equipment is all John Deere and precision systems utilize the John Deere platform. You may operate equipment, but this is not your primary focus. Your focus will be getting the machinery and people to the right place at the right time to get the crop planted and harvested in a timely manner. You will manage all equipment service and maintenance records and will be responsible for knowing when to call in a professional to make repairs.
The farm owners desire an individual who sees the big picture and can be a partner when it comes to strategic planning, budgeting, and prioritizing capital needs. A working knowledge and experience operating large farm machinery coupled to LEAN manufacturing skills and operating efficiencies are vital to your success. Agronomic knowledge is vital coupled to experiences with irrigation and grain storage. The owners want someone who will communicate in an honest and direct manner. You must be able to delegate and manage people. The ideal candidate will be someone who is essentially within three hours of the farm. You must have an understanding of the climate, crops, and farming practices for the area.
The region is a great place to raise a family. The community has an outstanding public school system with state ranked athletic teams. There are a variety of churches for worship and the crime rate is very low. You are within driving distance to metro shopping and eating establishments.
The owners believe in intellectual growth and will provide you opportunities for learning and expanding your skillset through peer group mentoring. You are encouraged to build camaraderie with the team. The farm is faith based and family focused with no work on Sundays.
A competitive compensation package coupled to performance bonuses will be provided. You will have full benefits, housing, vehicle, and a credit card for farm related purchases. You can expect to earn a salary in the $70,000 to $120,000 range. Contact Jim Fleming.
