“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31

Real-life strategy to reach your goals.

We strive for diversity across the globe

The late Larry Burkett, author and founder of Christian Financial Concepts, often said, “There are more things to buy than you’ll ever have money for.” We can view time in a similar way. There are more tasks, projects, and activities to do than there is time for us to do them.

So, what do we do? Think about in your life, what are the things making demands on your time? The list can be long. Work; family time; chores and responsibilities at home; kids activities; church and school functions; hobbies and interests such as reading, movies, and sports; exercising; social media; visiting friends and relatives; involvement with special projects; and the list goes on and on. Oh…and how about relaxing?

In our often self-inflicted busy worlds, is it any wonder we find ourselves trying to “multitask” to get things done or just to keep everyone happy? Soon we find out we aren’t making anyone happy. Why? Because when we multitask, no one is getting our 100% focus on what needs to be done. Multitasking leads to distraction. Distraction leads to loss of focus. Loss of focus leads to lack of detail. Lack of detail leads to poor quality of results in whatever it is we are to be doing. This leads to frustration in ourselves and in those around us – our family, co-workers, customers…whoever it is who is expecting our best efforts but is only getting the leftovers.

We strive for diversity across the globe

Recently, I saw a young couple walking down the sidewalk with two kids, one about seven or eight and one in a stroller. The mom was walking about 10 feet in front of the stroller…focused on her cell phone. The oldest child was pushing the stroller, and the dad was about 10 feet behind the stroller, also focused on his cell phone. What a sad picture it was, but I thought, isn’t this a vivid example of our culture today where we often lose sight of the important things right in front of our eyes.

Start taking more time to focus on what is important to you. Use time blocking on your calendar to be purposeful to focus on that special project you need to get done at home or work, the special people in your life, or any important task at hand. Forget multi-tasking. Lock in and give that person or project your full attention and watch your relationships and your results start to improve.

Abe Lincoln said, “Whatever you are, be a good one.” We can tweak that and say, “Whatever you do, stay focused and do it well.” To do so, we have to train ourselves to focus on the task at hand, blot out distractions, and give whatever project or person we are dealing with our very best efforts and undivided attention.

Split Second Decisions

AGRI-SEARCH Featured Recruiter: Jim Fleming

Every day, we make countless decisions, ranging from routine choices to more complex ones. The decisions we make affect our daily lives, our work, our finances, our family, and friends and even our faith. Some of our decisions are made using a system of mental checks and balances and carefully weighing the outcome, while others are made without a second thought. However, it is the split-second decision that can have the greatest impact on our lives and the lives of others.

Our daily newsfeeds have numerous stories about people who made a split-second decision and reacted wrongly. People placed in “fight or flight” situations often make a decision that can cost them a relationship, a career, or even their freedom. This has happened to me. I found myself in situations where I acted impulsively. Emotions took over, and in hindsight, I could havetaken a step back, left to cool off, and reflected before reacting. Anger is an emotion that every human being has and each of us deals with it differently.

Anger, or lack of patience, happens at home, on the job, in the car, or standing in line at a restaurant. It can happen at anytime and anyplace. We need to learn what triggers our emotions and more importantly how we deal with them. Often, our reactions are influenced by how we’ve seen others manage themselves. Personally, I sometimes react with intensity, like how my family handled emotions. I can hold things in, but once pushed too far, I might react in ways I am not proud of. After these moments, I usually feel remorse and seek to make amends.

In our workplaces, we may encounter people with whom we don’t always see eye-to-eye. No workplace is utopia. What we need to do is to learn how to deal with individuals who may “push our buttons.” We must develop self-control mechanisms rather than react by instinct. We must use our emotional intelligence and empathy to communicate and diffuse those tense situations and finally identify what are healthy and unhealthy ways to manage anger.

Changing how we deal with our emotions is a process and does not happen overnight. Are you someone who has a tough time dealing with your emotions, or do you have someone in your life who struggles in this area? Either way, I encourage you to seek out resources or someone who can counsel you. Do not let a “split-second decision” affect your life forever. Face it head-on now and find healthy ways to handle those challenging moments.

The Myth of Multitasking
By: Chelbi Alt

In today’s fast-paced world, multitasking is often seen as a badge of honor too many of us “proudly” wear. Juggling multiple tasks at once might seem like the key to getting more done in less time, but research tells a different story. The truth is, multitasking can reduce your productivity, increase your stress levels, and lead to more errors in your work.

Over the last several weeks, our team has been reading the book The 12 Week Year, and after many of our weekly reviews we mention feeling “gut punched” or like “our toes have been stepped on” from the message. The book is truly quite simple as it discusses the concept of setting smaller, more achievable goals over a shorter period. This strategy provides a clear path to increased focus and prioritization, offering a more effective way to work rather than trying to manage everything at once, and reminding us we can’t be all things to all people.

Long story short, if you want to achieve more with less effort, it’s time to stop multitasking and start focusing.
