Highly respected grain company in the Southwestern US is seeking a positive minded Feed Ingredient Merchandiser with quiet confidence and a can-do attitude to join their team of trading professionals.
The successful candidate will have an agricultural background and some commodity trading experience and seasoning under their belt; an Ag Economics degree is preferred. A background trading soybean meal or distillers grains will fit in well with this team where you will not need to supervise anyone but must get along well with a lot of different people.
It is essential to have a mature demeanor, knowledge base, and the capability to interface with very astute operators and be able to handle the problems customers throw at you. A trustworthy, steady demeanor and the ability to earn and build respect with team members and customers is vital.
Having an entrepreneurial ability to see opportunities in the market and successfully present them to customers is key. Understanding rail logistics and experience trading on the Union Pacific Rail system would be perfect, but any rail trading experience will be valuable, and successful and savvy traders with a truck background will be considered.
Responsibilities will include position management, buying from a variety of suppliers, often out of the Midwest, and typically via rail, and then selling to satisfy the demands of key customers including dairies, layer operations, and feed yards. You will also be involved in the logistics piece, making sure the products are delivered at the right time and right place.
Keeping track of prices, available supplies, quality issues, and other relevant topics is a must. Your time will be balanced between price discovery and gaining market knowledge; logistics; keeping in contact with teammates and customers, and working with staff on credit and quality issues.
You will join a very collaborative team that works closely together in sharing ideas and information as well as in solving issues that arise. They are focused on facilitating a team process via risk management meetings, open discussions as market and logistics opportunities and challenges arise, and open doors to facilitate open and transparent communications throughout each day. You will be entrusted to bring new ideas to the table and to make trading decisions.
This opportunity is with a dynamic, team-oriented company in a desirable location where people like to relocate to and can enjoy a great personal life. It offers an opportunity to work with loyal customers who will challenge you, learn from the people who have been there, and be able to advance into a Risk Management and Merchandising Manager role.
Compensation will be market competitive with industry standards and the skills a successful candidate brings to the job; benefits are better than industry norms.
