Thriving grain company in West Central Illinois is seeking a well seasoned Grain Operations Manager to fill a key leadership role. This individual will be a hands on manager who will lead the team at the flagship elevator facility for the company on a daily basis; there will also be some oversight of the Grain Operations Superintendents at a few other company locations.
The ideal candidate will have some grain operations management experience, some maintenance background, some experience bidding and reviewing projects, and have grain quality management abilities including large bins or warehouses where you have managed large quantities of grain.
Responsibilities include utilizing all the tools at your disposal to ship quality grain. You will manage people, grain quality, and equipment. If that means you need to get the dryer up and running, you will be involved in getting that done. Also included will be keeping equipment maintained and making sure all team members are properly trained and well informed; overseeing capital projects as they come along; taking a lead role in all safety matters; coordinating with key staff on environmental and OSHA related details; and preparing and working with the budget for all maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance. You will also be dealing with truckers and DOT issues as well (not dispatching).
The ideal candidate will be an honest and accountable leader who communicates in a direct "say what you mean, mean what you say" manner and has approximately 8-25+ years of grain operations management experience. You will ideally have been exposed to a wide variety of situations in the grain handling industry. Experience developing a good PM program as well as dealing with the DOT is valuable. A strong mechanical skillset is critical for dealing with some older facilities, equipment, and grain piles.
A key to success in this role is being involved and hands-on as needed to monitor and manage the grain and in leading the outside team. You will inherit a great staff with some talented long-term team members who know the facilities inside and out and are eager to learn and grow. They will welcome a knowledgeable leader who gets involved, treats them with respect, and enjoys teaching and training newer hires.
This is a great situation to join a highly respected company in a key role where you can make a difference; there is a challenge that needs some attention and work to be done. You can come in and design and implement plans utilizing your knowledge and experience to get things operating like a well oiled machine, and then reap the rewards of letting it operate smoothly and watching it shine.
This position is based in a very nice agricultural community with ample entertainment, educational and cultural opportunities nearby.
Compensation will be industry competitive (high five to low six digits) with a very good bonus program.
