Successful and well-respected agricultural company in northern Illinois is seeking a Logistics Manager to take the lead in managing logistics needs for multiple locations in supporting agricultural shipments for their internal departments, as well as external customers.
The ideal candidate will possess the innate ability to handle freight logistics, especially in times of a truck shortage, while always demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
You must have an agricultural background, a minimum of five years of logistics, transportation or distribution experience and an understanding of DOT regulations. Experience in a grain elevator type of environment is key to understanding the focus of this business. You will need to posses the ability to multitask, set priorities, problem solve, and be adaptable to change.
In this role you will be responsible for researching new logistics opportunities as a supplement to the core business needs and cultivating new sales leads to create new business and maintain profitability. You will establish trucking freight rates, routes for delivery, and quality transportation services to meet customers’ needs as well as establishing an ongoing plan for truck and trailer replacement based on cost analysis.
The successful candidate will communicate regularly with and broker trucks by phone and radio as you create a transportation plan that includes a diversity of agricultural products, as well as other regional needs.
You will need to be a team leader who can lead positively and motivate by example, ensure that all work practices are completed in a safe manner, and meet compliance with all federal, state, local, and company policies.
